Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting

This course follows the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and industry recommendations for provision of First Aid in an education and care setting. This course specifically applies to educators and support staff caring for infants and children.

Upon successful completion, the student will receive a Statement of Attainment certificate.

Incorporating the Unit of Competence:

  • HLTAID009 Provide CPR
  • HLTAID012 Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting

The topics include but are not limited to:

  • Legal issues and requirements
  • DRSABCD
  • Managing an unconscious breathing person
  • CPR (resuscitation)
  • Debriefing/welfare
  • Choking
  • Illnesses (diabetes, seizures, asthma, anaphylaxis etc)
  • Trauma management
  • Minor injuries
  • Environmental conditions
  • Envenomation
  • Poisoning and needle stick injuries

Face to face instruction is 8.5 hours.

Annual CPR re-accreditation is required.

Course Accreditation

This course is nationally recognised.

Physical Requirements

The student must be able to kneel for the CPR component of the course.
