These units of competency from the SIS Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package provide a set of skills to meet the requirements for a Pool Lifeguard. Upon successful completion, the student will receive a Statement of Attainment certificate.

Duration

Face-to-face instruction is 2 days.

Students must obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI) prior to enrolling in this course. Please visit https://www.usi.gov.au/ for more information.

Valid for

1 Year.

A full course must be completed if a Pool Lifeguard qualification has expired after a period greater than 4 weeks.

A refresher course must be completed if a Pool Lifeguard qualification has expired by a period of less than 4 weeks and the person has been working consistently in the industry. Evidence must be supplied to support this employment.

Course Accreditation
The course is nationally recognised.
Physical Requirements

This is a physical course. A fitness test requires that a student must be:

  • Able to swim 200 metres in under 6 minutes.
  • Able to swim 25 metres to a casualty, tow them 25 metres and remove them from the water with assistance from others students in under 1 minute and 45 seconds.
  • The student must also be able to kneel for the CPR component of the course.
Assessment

Practical and Theory assessments will be conducted during the course.

If a practical assessment is deemed Not Competent, students will be given an 8-week period from that date to complete a re-assessment.
